What We Were

The 93-acre property is the last vestige of a 1,200-acre working cattle farm.

Crops were also grown, including wheat, corn and oats. Seed from orchard grass was also harvested and sold.

Who We're Becoming

We envision a landscape restored to some of its pre-settlement features--a savanna-like structure of Piedmont native shrubs, and short and tall trees, in revived meadows of native flowering plants.

With a stream flowing diagonally across the property and into the Rappahannock River, attention will be paid to restoring riparian areas. The invasive non-natives Autumn Olive and Japanese Stiltgrass will be removed, and their place taken by suitable native plants. We hope this puts out the "Welcome" sign for a host of native arthropods, amphibians, reptiles, fish, birds and mammals.
